In recent years, we have seen a surge of Hollywood’s finest swapping the silver screen for the smaller screen. Recently, Academy Award-winning actors like Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon are taking on the big TV drama. So, why are film stars making the switch?

According to Peaky Blinders’ leading man, it’s all in the writing:

‘There’s a golden age with television now and for actors to get to explore characters over the course of six hours is a real treat, especially when you have writing of great calibre.’ – Cillian Murphy, Actor

Television is becoming more lucrative for actors not only because of its scripts but the greater production values too. The introduction of Game of Thrones in 2011 raised the bar with its visually impressive, captivating show and paved the way for productions to come.

We recently enjoyed working on the second series of Amazon Prime Video’s Jack Ryan and BBC One’s latest adaptation His Dark Materials. Here’s what our Project Managers had to say:

‘I worked on Jack Ryan for three weeks and in the first week alone we had 700 Supporting Artists on set. It was really exciting to work on a huge, action-packed production. My highlight was booking the body double for John Krasinski.’ – Jade, Project Manager – Jack Ryan

“As a fan of the books, working on His Dark Materials was a really exciting opportunity for me. The diversity in casting was great – from prim and proper students to weathered Gyptians, it was a very exciting production! Our Supporting Artists were brilliant and so dedicated – sometimes travelling miles to shoots or working in heavy snow and icy conditions.” Hattie – Senior Project Manager – His Dark Materials

At Mad Dog 2020 Casting we are honoured to have worked on critically acclaimed productions such as Luther, Peaky Blinders, Top Boy, Outlander the A Word.

Streaming services like Amazon Prime and Netflix have made the reality possible where we can now watch anything, anywhere and the appetite for the big TV drama is growing. We can’t wait to tell you more about the exciting productions we are working on right now. Watch this space!
